About Us
The Story Behind Zoological Wildlife FoundationThe Zoological Wildlife Foundation was founded in 2000 by Mario and Maria Tabraue, a Cuban-American couple who met and fell in love over their shared passion for animals. Mario has more than 20 years of experience working with animals, and he and Maria brought their passion into a foundation that is dedicated to educating the public about rare and endangered animal species in captivity and in the wild. Today, ZWF is accredited by the Zoological Association of America, and considered one of the top zoos in the U.S., alongside the San Diego Zoo and the Bronx Zoo. (Rated by Trip Advisor)
We’re glad to have you here, and hope you enjoy yourselves as you experience close encounters and interact with our exotic wildlife.
Throughout the year, the Zoological Wildlife Foundation hosts many events to raise awareness. We strive to educate people about conservation, education and preservation of exotic wildlife. ZWF is a self-funded organization, so these events, combined with our tours, help us provide for our animals. Adoptions can also be made to support the maintenance of a particular animal.

Common Questions
Important Information About The Animals At ZWFThe tiger cubs we receive are cubs that would not have been accepted at a zoo, and would be euthanized if it were not for facilities like ours. We house our adult tigers together, and although we do not encourage breeding, we may have cubs born occasionally. Usually we must take them in and raise them from day one, if the captive-born mother abandons the cubs or does not raise them herself.
Most of the baby/young animals we care for here have been born in captivity for many generations, and the adult parents lose the instincts to care for them. We step in and usually take over from day one.
We have many different animals that we have acquired from different locations and situations. Some animals were kept illegally and are then confiscated and brought over to us. Others are from facilities like ours, as well as transfers from other zoos, and some were received from rehab/rescue centers. Also, we have a few animals that were directly imported here for our breeding program.
Although all animal enclosures meet or exceed regulation standards, we are constantly enhancing our facility to give our guests and our animals a better experience. We are situated on five acres of land and are looking into buying the property behind us to create more animal enclosures. We also have a private location in Jupiter, FL, that is not open to the public, and is situated on 40 acres of land. This property also houses many of our animals, which live in large, custom-created spaces that mimic the natural environment of the animal.

- "MOST BEAUTIFUL & MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE!!!! I’m so happy I went to ZWF, my kids had the best time, also learned some cool info on the tour! Loved how gorgeous & healthy the animals are, very clean property! Overall amazing experience!!!"-VISITED MARCH 2021
- "I had a phenomenal time with Michael the tour guide when I attended my tour. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the animals and the necessary care that is required. He made our visit very friendly and fun and I could not imagine having anyone else as my tour guide. Unfortunately, there was not a lion cub for me to hold, but we made up for it holding several reptiles, and a few different monkeys. I would highly recommend coming here to see the different animals and would highly recommend Michael the tour guide as the leader of the tour!"-VISITED JANUARY 2021
- "We had such a great time, loved the entire experience. Such a well run facility and great staff. Thank you ZWF for taking such good care of our animals. We love ZFW."-VISITED FEBRUARY 2021
