Fun In The Sun!

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

It was a lazy afternoon today at ZWF. We caught one of our Tabby Tiger girls having a nice rest in their water tub! What a beautiful girl she is. They love playing in their water tub, and if you notice in back of her a ball in the water, well that’s actually a bowling ball! Yes, a bowling ball which is given to them to play with. It’s one “toy” that takes them a while to destroy! We have many different animals at our facility, and we also offer tours by appointment! If you would like come by for a private tour, then please check out our tours page for more information!

Meet Bonnie & Clyde, Our Black & White Ruffed Lemurs!

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Everyone meet Bonnie & Clyde! Bonnie and Clyde are both Black and White Ruffed Lemurs. The Ruffed lemur is the largest of the true lemurs, measuring when full grown, four feet in length including the long tail of about two feet. The fur is long and soft, and the ears are hidden by a ruff of hair. The color pattern varies and may be different on the right and left sides of a specimen. Black and white ruffed lemurs live in groups of two to five individuals, thought to be an adult mated pair and their young. Greetings are very ceremonious involving reciprocal grooming. They mark their territory by screaming and by scent. They rub leaves, branches or fruit with their palms to leave a distinctive odor. During the day the Ruffed lemur sleeps in a hollow tree curled up into a ball. It is a nimble climber, most active at dusk and during the first part of the night, when it forages for fruit. It normally progresses by walking or running on larger branches, and leaps from tree to tree. The Ruffed lemur lives in eastern Madagascar. It is a forest species found in humid rain forests.

These little guys are settling quite nicely into their new home at ZWF! You can come visit them on a private tour here at our facility, just go to our tours page to find out more information on the packages we offer!

Update on Abu & Simba!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Abu & Simba, our Lions, are enjoying their large enclosure area very much! Yesterday we went in the enclosure with them to give them some exercise and interaction. Oh boy are they a handful! These boys are full of energy and never run out of batteries! Lions, especially males are usually very lazy, but not these lions! The minute we walked into their enclosure they immediate started to run up to us, and were jumping, diving, rolling, you name it. We love to see the energy they show us because we truly know they are happy. Abu and Simba still have a lot of growing to do, and we can’t wait for their manes to come in! If you would like to see more photos of Abu & Simba as they’ve grown up, then please visit their gallery.

Princess Sahima!

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Sahima our white Tiger Cub is growing up very quickly! It seems as if just yesterday she was only opening her eyes. She already shows her own individual personality, and is very calm and sweet by nature. She loves to be interacted with, and plays with a young Bernese Mountain Dog during the day (she usually uses him as a large pillow to take her naps). She is truly a special creature. You can meet Sahima in person on one of our very private and special tours! Yes, that’s right, you can actually meet our baby tiger cub in person and spend some time with her! We love to see the happy and excited faces of people who have always dreamed to be in the presence of a tiger cub. It is a great pleasure to make the dreams of many people come true on one of our tours. If you would like more information on the tours we offer please visit our tours page, or e-mail us for more information as well.

Indah the Binturong is doing great at our facility! She is getting very large, and LOVES to eat bananas and apples. We took Indah out exploring today, and she loved it. Her favorite part was climbing up the trees and partly hanging with her prehensile tail. To view more photos of Indah, then please visit Indah’s Gallery.
