Check out who came in to help with the daily office tasks! Nochi is one smart Jaguar; you should see how he really “crunches” those numbers! Just kidding! But he did seem to really enjoy his visit and training time, which consisted of playing ball and a fun walk! You can see more new pictures of him here! And be sure to check out our updated tour page that now includes an interactive portion with Nochi!

They all like to swing and play on vines and trees! And that is just what we have given to our fun loving baby gibbons! The new play area was scientifically designed to help promote the wellbeing of our animals, as well as help stimulate them mentally and physically. The structure includes a couple of swings as well as a few natural vines and some playthings that are given to human babies to help encourage growth in education and intelligence for the baby apes and monkeys.
Everyone has seen how great apes are very intelligent and have the ability to use tools and some even have the ability to learn sign language as well as displaying proper functions for shape placement and color differences. But unfortunately, there is little known about the ability of gibbons and their ability to learn and use tools. For the most part, in the wild, they live high in the trees, and have proved to be very difficult to study. We are hoping that with the creation of the new room, we can get a little more incite of the behavioral patterns and learning capabilities of the types of baby primates that we possess here on site. You also can come and visit them, and watch them play and have fun in the new primate room with a private tour. You can sit with them and watch them play, as well as watch them come over to you and interact with you as well! For details check out our tour page. It is literally an experience of a lifetime! We hope to see you soon!
As part of our underlying goal of educating the public about rare and indigenous species, we had a field trip come from Somerset Academy. While they were here, they got to learn about some behavioral patterns and fun facts about many different types of animals ranging from goats and donkeys all the way to bengal tigers, giant anteaters, and ligers. This also included some hands on experiences with baby foxes, baby wolves, baby patas monkeys and more. For more details on how to set up a group tour, please visit our tour page. We hope to see you soon!
Nochi, the Black Panther, is finally here and looks to be enjoying his new home! See how big his smile is? You can see more pictures of him here. Nochi and his friends would all love to see you here at ZWF. Come and visit our tour page to see what options are best for you! We even offer photo shoots with Nochi and his friends!
Say hello to Charlie! He is a Caribbean Brown Pelican, found in the, well yes, you guessed it, the Caribbean! But they are also found along both coastal lines across the Americas. The brown pelican is one of two pelican species that are known to actually dive into the water for their food. They can grow to be up to 54in (137cm) long, and can weight as much as 12lbs (5.5kg). Their bill alone can be as long as 13.7in (34.8cm).
They eat mostly fish, diving in the water at high speeds, but occasionally, they eat crustaceans and amphibians. Pelicans normally live in flocks of both sexes, and generally fly in bigger groups. When flying over the waters, they generally fly close to the surface as to search for schools of fish to hunt in. You can come see Charlie and his friends here at ZWF with a private tour. To set up a private tour, come visit our tour page for details.
These two beautiful birds are White Naped Ravens (Corvus albicollis). Although Shaqui has been with us for a little bit, Pete has just recently been brought in to pair with Shaqui. The White Napped Raven originally hails from the eastern and southern parts of Africa, generally found around small villages and town around the mountainous areas. They can grow to be approximately 54cm (21.4 inches) long, and weight as much as 2lbs (865 grams)! The large white spot on the back of their neck, as well as an ivory tip on their beak identify the ravens.
The White Napped Raven is known to be one of the most intelligent species of raven, some have been known to learn basic human words, and might even have the ability to count! They are generally tame animals, even in the wild, and have a very mischievous personality, known to be tricksters and areal stars in some areas. Their diets consist of mostly anything editable. Ravens are omnivores, which means they will eat both meat and plants, including seeds, berries, eggs of other birds, and other small animals.
