International Tiger Day

tiger-day-web

Thank you for helping us raise awareness.

International tiger Day at ZWF Miami was a great success:

20% of all proceeds were donated to conservation programs that ZWF has identified as making a real difference in species survival.

What is International Tiger Day?

International Tiger Day is held annually on July 29 to give worldwide attention to the reservation of tigers. It is both an awareness day as a celebration. It was founded at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010.

This was done because at that moment wild tigers were too close to extinction.

Many animal welfare organizations pledged to help these wonderful creatures and are still helping to raise funds to reach this goal.

The goal of Tiger Day is to promote the protection and expansion of the wild tigers habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger conservation.

Amolika & Niriprenda – Tabby Tiger Cubs

At about 9 weeks Amolika and Niriprenda are growing fast !!!

They are Tabby Tiger Cubs and have started to develop personalities. Amolika loves to play with toys and chase her brothers tail. Niriprenda would rather lay around and be scratched by his handlers. They both enjoy spending time with their handlers and guests. The constant human interaction is very important for cubs at this age to develop a respect for their handlers when they are over 300 pounds. Every day they are fed a special formula and feline meat that is prepared with vitamins and nutrients these young felines need. During the day they now have an outside pen where they play and frolic. At night they have an indoor enclosure where they are fed once more before going to bed with their favorite plush toys and blankets.

Every year Pet Supermarket in Oakland Park , Florida hosts a pet appreciation day where customers come in with their pets dressed in their Halloween costumes to take pictures and enter a costume contest. This year pet Supermarket asked us to come in and educate the public about conservation and awareness of endangered exotic animals. Andrea our animal handler took Tahiri our Black and White Ruffed Lemur and Trevor our Red Fox. Customers learned a little about both animals and were able to meet them up close and personal.
